WMU Athletics name Makiba Batten as new track and field and cross-country head coach

Batten joins the Broncos with a lengthy resume. She recently spent six years at Wayne State University as an assistant coach. At Wayne State, she helped produce one All-American, two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions and seven all-GLIAC selections.

“We are excited for the direction that Coach Batten will take the track and field and cross-country program,” Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard said in a press release. “She has an impressive range of coaching experience at all levels of track and field and was an All-American athlete in college at Florida State.”

Batten also seems excited for the opportunity and seemed impressed with how Western Michigan’s athletic department operates.
