Western Michigan QB Zach Terrell wins Campbell Trophy, aka 'academic Heisman'

A storybook season for Zach Terrell and the Western Michigan football team added another compelling chapter Tuesday night.

The Broncos' fifth-year senior quarterback was announced winner of the coveted William V. Campbell Trophy, the top scholar-athlete award in the country for football that is also known as the "academic Heisman."

Terrell and 11 other finalists for the award, including Central Michigan quarterback Cooper Rush, were honored Tuesday as part of the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete class during a ceremony at Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Terrell, who earned his bachelor's degree in 3 1/2 years and graduated cum laude, carries a 3.
