The Western Michigan left-handed ace was selected in the second round with the 54th pick of the MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
The Midland, Mich., native who shined at Bullock Creek High School struggled as a freshman and sophomore, but burst onto the scene in the offseason leading up to the 2016 season and he continued to succeed in a WMU uniform.
Akin finished this past season with 133 strikeouts, which ranked among the most in the country, while also setting a school record.
