Steve Hawkins' team was struggling to score points and he needed to change the flow of the game Tuesday night.
The Western Michigan head coach, in his 14th year leading the team, watched as his Broncos stuck close in a low-scoring game at Toledo, but knew he'd have to open the door for one of his stars to walk through.
Hawkins pulled 6-foot-3 junior guard Thomas Wilder aside to provide a new direction for his struggling team.
"I just sort of had to take him (aside) in one of the timeouts and say 'Listen, you're going to have to take this over here for a little while because we don't have a lot going on offensively, we can't get in a rhythm,'" Hawkins said.
