KALAMAZOO, MI - The midseason departure of starting kickoff specialist Josh Grant created an unexpected opening on Western Michigan's special-teams unit, with a trio of freshmen leading the pack of possible replacements.
One of those contenders, Grandville native Gavin Peddie, is coming off a two-field goal, four-extra-point performance against Georgia State that earned him Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week honors, while the other two are rookie punters Nick Mihalic and Cameron Braaten.
"Peddie, Nick Mihalic are kind of the main two, and then Cameron," Lester said Tuesday at WMU's weekly press conference.
