KALAMAZOO, MI – Steve Hawkins said his Western Michigan men's basketball team got what it deserved Tuesday night because the Broncos are too nice.
Western Michigan erased a 12-point second half deficit, but the Broncos fell at home in overtime to Kent State, 87-84, in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
Western Michigan (6-8, 0-1 MAC) played from behind for most of the night Tuesday due in part because of turnovers. The Golden Flashes (10-4, 1-0 MAC) scored 28 points off of 19 WMU turnovers. A long and athletic Kent State team also got 16 second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds.
