Western Michigan AD took a big chance on P.J. Fleck four years ago

KALAMAZOO, MI -- There are countless plays, moments and events that drove the Western Michigan football team to this 12-0 undefeated regular season, but if we're going to be honest, this season began four years ago.

In 2012, after struggling with a stagnant program at the end of another lackluster, Broncos athletic director Kathy Beauregard had to make the biggest choice for the future of the university's football program.

A planned 20-minute meeting with then-Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers coach P.J. Fleck turned into three-plus hours of conversation about life, family and ideas surrounding the construction of a successful football program.
