Through injury, Berman finds voice in WMU baseball’s dugout

Now a senior, the athletic training major continues to be vocal, but his method loosens the team, as he fills the role of a comedic leader.

“Gabe is a flamboyant personality, a ‘type A’ personality. He’s got a comedic personality; very light,” head coach Billy Gernon said. “What was unique about him was that jovial, almost clown like, personality would turn into an animal out on the mound, so he’s able to flip a switch to keep guys loose and go out and take care of business.”

Berman was injured against Central Michigan University last season, and he had to sit in the dugout and watch as the team won the Mid-American Conference tournament, which was a bittersweet situation.
