KALAMAZOO, MI - A decision to enter the NFL's July supplemental draft fast-tracked Sam Beal's path to pro football.
It turns out the former Western Michigan cornerback likely will have to wait until the 2019 season to make his NFL debut.
After being selected by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2018 supplemental draft, Beal suffered a shoulder injury during his first career NFL practice Monday and will miss significant time, if not all, of his rookie season, according to a report from ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Western Michigan football coach Tim Lester was unavailable for comment, and Beal's representatives did not respond to an interview request.
