NOTRE DAME, Ind.- Western Michigan softball gave a hard-nosed effort, but fell on the road at No. 18 ranked Notre Dame Tuesday, 6-3.
The Fighting Irish (33-6) raced out to an early 6-0 lead before the Broncos (18-20) fought back with three runs in the top of the fifth. Caitlyn Brooks gave Notre Dame a 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the third, scoring Karley Wester who reached on a double and Melissa Rochford who got on with a walk.
Wester, who leads the Irish with a .452 batting average, then gave her team a big boost in the fourth, hitting a grand slam to open a 6-0 advantage.
