KALAMAZOO, MI - Former Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal will be strapping on his pads in the Big Apple for the upcoming football season, after the New York Giants drafted him in the third round of Wednesday's NFL supplemental draft.
The Grand Rapids native was the first person taken in the NFL's supplemental draft since 2015, when the St. Louis Rams selected Clemson offensive lineman Isaiah Battle in Round 5.
With the Beal selection, the Giants will forfeit their third-round pick in the 2019 NFL entry draft.
Beal started the past two years at WMU, tallying 26 tackles (3 for loss), 12 pass breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble as a junior in 2017.
