KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Stifling late-game defense along with four scoring in double figures led the Western Michigan men's basketball team to a 67-63 victory over Kent State on Saturday afternoon inside University Arena.
The Broncos held the Golden Flashes scoreless from the field the final 4:39 of play as Kent State scored just eight points in the final eight minutes. After trailing by 10, WMU rallied back and tied the game at 58-58 with 3:12 remaining behind four straight points from junior Rafael Cruz Jr.
Kent State regained a one-point advantage a minute later off a pair of free-throws before redshirt junior Brandon Johnson earned a fast-break lay-up to give the Brown & Gold a one points lead.
