KALAMAZOO, MI - A year ago, Western Michigan true freshman quarterback Kaleb Eleby probably sees the field in a blowout loss at Michigan.
But with the NCAA's new rule that allows players to compete in four games and retain a redshirt, WMU coach Tim Lester decided to delay his No. 2 quarterback's debut, and that's part of a larger plan.
Essentially, he's hoping to have his cake and eat it, too.
"We'd like to redshirt Kaleb Eleby," Lester said during Tuesday's WMU football press conference. "We're not going to be in a hurry to throw him out there because if (starting quarterback) Jon (Wassink) gets hurt with two games left, we'd love to be able to play him and still redshirt him.
