KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Junior Keegan Akin and freshman Connor Smith of the Western Michigan baseball team each heard their name called twice at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Individual Awards banquet Tuesday night at All-Pro Freight Stadium.
Akin, a Midland, Mich. native, was named First Team All-MAC and was also named to the All-MAC Defensive Team. Akin is the first player to be named to the First Team since Andrew Sohn did it in 2013 as a shortstop and he is the first pitcher to do so Ethan Hollingsworth did it in 2008. The All-MAC Defensive Team was just put into place last season, making Akin the first ever to be named to the team.
