KALAMAZOO -- Junior Keegan Akin broke the single-season strikeout record after he struck out eight and pitched a complete-game shutout as the Western Michigan baseball team defeated Ohio, 6-0, at Robert J. Bobb Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Akin dominated the rubber and didn't waste any time breaking Pat Misch's record after he struck out his 100th batter of the season to get out of a jam with runners in scoring position late in the first inning. The previous record of 99 was held by Pat Misch.
Grant Miller, Mitchell Ho and Nate Grys each drove in two runs, while Alex Goodwen went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored.
