EUGENE, Ore. – Western Michigan graduate student Kayla Schiera finished 15th in the nation in the 3K Steeplechase at the NCAA Championships, earning a time of 10:03.31 at Hayward Field on Thursday night.
Schiera's place in the meet earned her Second Team All-American honors, making her a two-time honoree. She is the first Bronco to become an All-American since 2018 and the first to earn Second Team honors since 2012. She was an Honorable Mention All-American at Southern Illinois before transferring to WMU.
The Illinois native was dominant over the home stretch of her college career, setting the school record in the 3K steeplechase multiple times and winning the MAC Championship, while earning a bid to the NCAA Championships for the second time in her career.
