COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan senior defenseman Kale Bennett has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Senior Scholar Athlete, the conference announced on Thursday.
Bennett boasts a 3.99 GPA in biomedical sciences and is a four-time NCHC Academic All-Conference selection and a four-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. The St. Louis, Mo., native is also a three-time American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Scholar.
Voting for the NCHC's Senior Scholar-Athlete award was conducted by the eight faculty athletics representatives (FARs) at the NCHC's member institutions.
Bennett was selected by his team as an assistant captain for his senior campaign and played in 22 games this season, leading the team with 37 blocked shots.
