The team was awarded to Bill Foley, who is a billionaire businessman who grew up in Canada and has been a fan of the sport ever since his childhood. Foley had to pay $500 million to the other NHL team owners collectively in his bid to bring a hockey team to Las Vegas. The minority owners will be the former owners of the National Basketball Association’s Sacramento Kings, Joe and Gavin Maloof. The team will play in the T-Mobile Arena, which was built last April for at $375 million and is fully equipped to host an NHL hockey team.
