KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Thanks to a pair of power-play goals and great goaltending, Omaha was able to snap Western Michigan's seven-game winning streak Saturday night inside Lawson Arena. The Mavericks collected a 2-0 victory and moved to third in the NCHC standings. WMU drops to fourth in the league.
The two teams were scoreless after one period, but Jonny Tychonick changed that with a power-play goal just minutes into the second period. The Mavericks extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Cameron Berg at the 7:31 mark of the second period. That is all Mavericks goaltender Simon Latkoczy would need, as he saved all 40 shots that came his way, including a 17-save third period.
