GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Western Michigan hockey team fell at No. 2 North Dakota 8-1 in front of 11,634 fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena on Friday night.
North Dakota scored two goals in the first period, four in the second period and then two more in the third period to seal the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Regular Season Championship. Sheldon Dries scored the lone goal for the Broncos (8-22-3, 5-17-1-1).
UND took a 1-0 lead at 12:20 on a goal by freshman Brock Boeser. Boeser fired a shot from the left circle and beat starting goalie Trevor Gorsuch for his 23rd goal of the year.
