Haymond and his family regularly vacationed in Hawaii where the Broncos team happened to be part of a tournament called the Rainbow Classic, which is where he first met the Broncos head coach Steve Hawkins.
“I met Hawk in ’05. They were playing in the Rainbow Classic in his first year. That was around when I first started liking basketball. I had my balls in the lobby, and I was dribbling around and stuff,” Haymond said. “Then, I met the players and they hung around me and eventually Hawk heard word of this little boy running around with the team.
