KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan freshman goaltender Hampton Slukynsky was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week, the league announced this afternoon.
Slukynsky was terrific in Saturday's 6-1 victory over St. Cloud State, making 25 total saves. He finished the weekend with a 1-0-0 record, 1.00 goals against average and .962 save percentage. The rookie netminder also helped WMU's penalty kill unit go 2-for-2.
The Los Angeles Kings draft pick made nine saves in each of the first two periods, ending the game with a seven-save third frame.
