The Griffins didn’t get out to the start they hoped for, taking a penalty with just over a minute gone in the first period. They were able to successfully kill off the penalty, though, and found themselves on the power play just over two minutes later. Lake Erie was able to kill off that penalty, keeping the game scoreless.
The Griffins would have two more power plays in the period, but they couldn’t break the Monsters’ penalty kill, sending the game into the first intermission scoreless.
The Griffins started the second period on the power play, but again they weren’t able to take advantage of it.
