Grand Rapids Griffins allow late goal, lose to Toronto

The Griffins played a great game against the American Hockey League’s leading team, but the Marlies would score the winning goal with less than two minutes to go in the game, handing the Griffins a 4-2 defeat.

The first half of the first period went very quickly, as there was only two whistles in the first 10 minutes. There was fast, back and fourth action, but neither team could score.

At the 14:08 mark of the period, Toronto made the first mistake of the game, giving the Griffins a power play. The Griffins had sustained pressure, spending most of the two minutes in the Marlies’ zone, but they couldn’t get one past Marlies’ goalie Antoine Bibeau.
