Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bipartisan bill Tuesday that permits the issuance of liquor licenses to sporting venues at public universities.
“The bipartisan bills I am signing today are about fairness, safety, and revenue,” Governor Whitmer said.
According to the state of Michigan, this new bill reduces the likelihood of binge drinking prior to sporting events. Reports have conveyed that alcohol-related disturbances at college sporting events have declined following the enactment of similar legislation in other states.
Gov. Whitmer also signed a bill that allows the sale of outside alcohol to continue after a three-year trial stage, making cocktails to-go permanent in Michigan.
