JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Western Michigan track and field season came to an end at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Thursday evening with sophomore sprinter Ayiana Gaines falling shy of qualifying for the quarterfinals in the 400-meter dash.
Gaines ran a time of 53.57 seconds to finish in 31st, falling shy of the necessary top-24 to move on to the quarterfinals on Friday.
The South Bend, Ind., native closes out a season that saw her add two more Mid-American Conference titles in the indoor and outdoor 400-meter dashes, as well as helping the outdoor 4x400-meter relay squad to a MAC title.
