SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Western Michigan sophomore sprinter Ayiana Gaines ran the fourth-fastest indoor 400-meter dash time in program history to highlight the final day of the Meyo Invitational for the track and field team on Saturday.
Gaines took fifth overall after running the Mid-American Conference's fastest time so far this year at 54.35 seconds. Her time bumped down WMU greats Danielle Brown and Iris Campbell in the process. Her time, converted to 54.65 seconds due to track size, ranks behind Andrea Arnold (54.63), Krisy Mahome (54.49) and Becky Horn (54.19).
Gaines, who had a personal-best in the 200-meter dash on Friday, also helped Western Michigan's 4x400-meter relay team to its season at 3:45.
