TOLEDO, Ohio -- Sophomore Ayiana Gaines broke the Western Michigan 200-meter dash record as she qualified in the 200 and the 400-meter dash finals on qualifying day at the 2016 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Track & Field Championships at the University of Toledo on Friday.
In the 200 Gaines ran a time of 23.65 seconds to take the second-best qualifying time and beating out former Bronco great Iris Campbell's record by .17 seconds. She then crushed the track record at Toledo in the 400 with a time of 52.70 seconds to earn the top qualifying spot in the event she won at the last Outdoor MAC Championship.
