DeShawn Foster, from scout team to Saturday’s

A product of Detroit Mumford, Foster was one of three preferred walk-ons brought in by Western Michigan University's former head coach P.J. Fleck in 2015, a recruiting class that for consecutive years, ranked at the top of the Mid-American Conference. A dual-sport athlete in high school, competing in track and field while playing as a defensive back and receiver on the gridiron, Foster went overlooked by the rest of the MAC as his only collegiate interest came from NAIA Siena Heights. That was until his athleticism caught the attention of Fleck at a seven-on-seven camp resulting in a preferred walk-on, which he fully capitalized on.
