The Western Michigan coaching staff spent a lot of their time in the offseason trying to improve on the defensive side of the ball.
On Saturday, that improvement came to fruition as the Broncos forced three turnovers to claw out a 38-16 win against Miami (OH) at Waldo Stadium on homecoming.
“We’ve been talking about ‘defense wins championships’ for years,” head coach Tim Lester said after the game. “I feel like this group as they play every game, they are understanding it more and getting more confidence. They were making plays and they kept us in the game.
