Overall talent and recent history determines the preseason rankings. The odds are stacked against WMU, even after an undefeated regular season this year. Western is still loaded with talent, even with major losses to next year’s team. The defense is filled with underclassmen, the only losses coming from the defensive line with defensive end Keion Adams and defensive lineman David Curle. The biggest problem will be the offensive weapons leaving at the end of the season. Sophomore quarterback Tom Flacco will mostly likely be next in line to take the starting position. Flacco played in seven games as a freshman totaling 266 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns to go with 188 passing yards and one passing touchdown.
