College Football Preview: Beat reporter Seth Berry makes his predictions for the Broncos 2019 season

Western Michigan football comes into the season with high expectations. After finishing last season just a game back of winning the MAC West, this year’s Broncos return a ton of experience on each side of the ball.

Part of that experience includes a healthy Jon Wassink, who will be under center for the Broncos in their opener against Monmouth. Wassink suffered a season-ending foot injury late in the year in 2018, forcing head coach Tim Lester to turn to true freshman quarterback Kaleb Eleby for the tail end of the season.

Still, under Eleby’s guidance, Western was ultimately a few yards short of still finding their way into the MAC title game, as a failed two-point conversion try at Ball State proved costly in a game they lost 42-41 in November.
