KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan football program and head coach Lance Taylor have announced the hiring of Chris O'Leary as defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
O'Leary joins the Broncos after spending the 2024 season as the safeties coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. He helped the Chargers to the NFL Playoffs as a wild card and coached All-Pro safety Derwin James Jr. to his fourth NFL Pro Bowl selection. James finished the regular season with 93 tackles, 5.5 sacks, seven passes defended, and one interception. The Chargers finished the regular season with the top-ranked scoring defense in the NFL, allowing just 17.
