Broncos take first round game in dramatic fashion

Western Michigan moved onto the second round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, defeating Minnesota State 2-1 in double-overtime.

The Slukynsky brothers, Hampton and Grant, both shined. The former tallied 28 saves in a one goal effort. The latter was the hero however, as he found the back of the net seven minutes and 14 seconds into the second overtime.

Goaltender Alex Tracy made 42 saves in a herculean effort for the Mavericks.

Minnesota State took a penalty earlier in the first period, but Western failed to score despite their three shots. The period stayed deadlocked until 16 seconds remaining, when Mankato took its second penalty.
