KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team won its 26th Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship in program history after defeating Northern Illinois, 4-3, at West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play, securing the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The match was deadlocked at 3-3 and came down to No. 2 singles between WMU's Peter Kuszynski and NIU's Kristopher Ortega. The two were battling in their third set and were tied 3-3. Kuszynski went ahead 5-3 but Ortega won the next game to make it 5-4.
