| Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Western Michigan volleyball team opened its 2019 campaign with a doubleheader sweep at the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational on Friday, defeating South Alabama in three sets (25-11, 25-14, 25-16) before taking down host school Purdue Fort Wayne in five (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 15-12).
With the victories over the Jaguars and Mastodons, the Broncos begin the season 2-0 for the first time since 2014. Western Michigan will conclude the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Northern Kentucky at 1:30 p.m.
On Friday, WMU had three players with over 20 kills with junior Rachel Bontrager leading the way with 31 in two games.
