COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a dazzling debut in net in a sweep over No. 20 Ferris State, Western Michigan freshman goalie Ben Blacker has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week.

Blacker made 31 saves in his collegiate debut during Friday's 5-3 win in Big Rapids. Twelve of his 31 saves came during seven Bulldog power plays. Blacker also assisted on Wade Allison's goal that gave WMU a 3-2 lead in the second period. On Saturday he stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced, allowing just a single power play goal in Western Michigan's 2-1 win.
