Baltimore Orioles select WMU fireballer Keegan Akin in the second round

Akin became the highest Bronco selected in the draft since 1970, when Harry Shaughnessy was selected by the Cleveland Indians 50 overall.

From Bullock Creek High School in Midland, Michigan, Akin was voted First Team All-State in 2012. Akin went 19-0 in two years at Bullock Creek. He was named Saginaw News/MLive.com Baseball Player of the Year in 2013 after going 10-0 with 104 strikeouts in 49 innings.

Being drafted to the major leagues caps off a banner year for Akin, in which he led the Broncos in many pitching categories and picked up multiple awards and distinctions.
