Iacopelli came to the Broncos as a United States Hockey League standout with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. In his first season with the Lumberjacks, he netted himself 41 goals and 23 assists in 58 games. The next season was another productive one, netting himself 37 points in 56 games and collecting five goals in the USHL Playoffs. That same season, Iacopelli was taken 83rd overall in the National Hockey League Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.
The change affected Iacopelli in the way he played and was tough on the young forward.
“The biggest difference with me was the speed and intensity of the college game,” Iacopelli said.
