Fredrick Edmond began playing basketball at 5 years old, when his mother bought him a rim as a deterrent to wandering through their "bad neighborhood" in Flint, Mich.
"She wanted me to stay in front of the yard," Edmond said. "She didn't want me going nowhere. I was just hooping every day."
On Tuesday, Edmond sat in the comforts of the Western Kentucky men's basketball coaches' offices, having just returned from a study session.
