Dylan Sanford had played eight total minutes for Western Kentucky this season before last weekend.
Then, at the 15:13 mark in the first half of Saturday's home game against Charlotte, coach Ray Harper grabbed the freshman walk-on guard and sent him toward the scorer's table.
Harper had foreshadowed all season that WKU's two freshman walk-ons better be ready at a moment's notice. That moment came.
"It was exciting," Sanford said. "I was a little nervous all at the same time, but it was a lot of fun. When he says be ready, he means it."
Sanford and fellow freshman walk-on guard Keifer Dalton have played sparingly this season, but Harper has invoked their names multiple times during some rough patches.
