SAN ANTONIO — Western Kentucky is still learning how to go for the knockout blow, but it didn't matter Thursday night.
The Hilltoppers built this lead large enough in the first half to do the job – and large enough to put them in unusual territory.
WKU (12-11 overall, 4-6 Conference USA) used a 21-0 run to pull away from last-place UTSA before halftime, an advantage that held through the second half for an 83-71 road victory at the Convocation Center.
"It's a learning process for this team every time out, but they've never been up 20 at the half," WKU coach Ray Harper said.
