WKU quarterbacks begin race for starting job

For the first time in several years, there was no Brandon Doughty going through quarterback drills Monday when Western Kentucky started spring practice.

In Doughty’s place were four QBs, each hoping to take the spot left open by his graduation.

Drew Eckels, Tyler Ferguson, Nelson Fishback and Mike White began their QB competition Monday afternoon at Houchens-Smith Stadium as the Hilltoppers conducted the first of 15 spring practices.

Each of the four hopefuls took turns running coach Jeff Brohm’s offense, working in both full team drills and 7-on-7 situations.

“We’ve been getting our work in during the” offseason, said White, a redshirt junior.
