The Hilltoppers drove 70 yards on eight plays in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. All but four yards on that series came on the ground.
Running back Joshua Samuel iced that drive with a 5-yard touchdown run that gave WKU a 28-20 lead over Ball State. That was the final margin for the Hilltoppers (1-3) in their win Saturday at Scheumann Stadium over the Cardinals (1-3).
As a team, WKU posted 192 rushing yards on 40 carries against Ball State, 150 of which came in the second half. That figure marked the most rushing yards the Toppers have produced during any of Sanford’s first 17 games in charge of the program.
