DENTON, Texas —In the first round of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship, the Lady Toppers’ Tennis squad pulled out a 4-2 victory over Florida Atlantic at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
The victory for WKU (12-5) marks the first conference tournament win since 2001 when the Lady Toppers defeated Louisiana Tech, 7-0, on April 20 – which is exactly 16 years ago.
No. 6 WKU came out firing in doubles to take an early 1-0 lead over No. 11 Florida Atlantic (11-11). Freshmen Natalia De Ugarte and Cindy Oest won on court two over FAU’s Naiya Oden and Heather Walton, 6-2, to improve their record when working together to 12-5.
