Western Kentucky announced the addition of Alabama A&M defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Reggie Johnson as a defensive assistant Friday.
Like new offensive assistant Chris Barclay's hire Wednesday, Johnson's exact role on the staff was not specified.
Johnson, 46, who played linebacker at Louisville while WKU coach Jeff Brohm was a quarterback for the Cardinals, also coached with Brohm previously at UAB and Louisville.
He came to Alabama A&M after two seasons at UAB as defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach. Brohm was the Blazers' offensive coordinator in 2012.
At UAB, Johnson mentored linebacker Marvin Burdette to All-Conference USA honors in 2012 as he set UAB single-season and career records for tackles with 157 and 406, respectively.
