Once upon a time, running backs ruled the roost at Western Kentucky.
Players like Bobby Rainey, Antonio Andrews and many before them carried the load for the Hilltoppers, but the emergence of star quarterback Brandon Doughty and coach Jeff Brohm's inventive offense changed that.
Now Doughty is gone, and the search is on for his replacement. It's unlikely that WKU is going to revert back to a heavy ground attack, but the running backs are ready for whatever is needed of them.
"I'll be telling the guys that we have to be very dependable," redshirt senior running back Anthony Wales said.
