UTEP, WKU set for first-place showdown

Regular-season games don’t get much bigger than the one Western Kentucky will host Saturday.

The Lady Toppers (18-3 overall, 9-1 Conference USA) welcome fellow first-place squad UTEP (18-2, 9-1) to E.A. Diddle Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The stakes are pretty simple: whichever team wins takes sole possession of first place in the C-USA standings. That team will also get the inside track for the all-important No. 1 seed for next month’s conference tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

WKU coach Michelle Clark-Heard gave her pitch Thursday night for a big crowd to come out and attend the C-USA showdown.
