EL PASO, Texas – Both Western Kentucky and Texas-El Paso scored a pair of touchdowns Saturday at the Sun Bowl. The difference in the Hilltoppers’ 15-14 victory was a two-point conversion after their first TD.
WKU (3-2 overall, 1-1 Conference USA) lined up for the PAT in what it calls its gate formation. Quarterback Drew Eckels stood five yards behind long snapper Ben Reeder, with the rest of the PAT team split out to either side of the formation.
The idea of the formation is that if the Toppers see a mismatch in numbers somewhere on the field, they’ll snap the ball and attempt a two-point conversion.
