The scene Saturday after Western Kentucky won the Conference USA championship was joyous at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
Students spilled onto the field and celebrated with the athletes. Chants of "T-O-P-S" broke out. The shiny C-USA trophy made its way through the droves of WKU faithful.
But not so long ago – less than a decade ago, actually – there was little joy on that field.
WKU's recent success may have caused some to forget the dark times. Others may still just be trying to forget.
But the players, coaches and administrators who experienced the program's low points don't forget.
